Edinburgh s Tim Visser v aironi

Try scorer: Edinburgh's Tim Visser

Edinburgh's fortunes took a turn for the better on Friday as they scored a 32-15 bonus-point win over Aironi at Murrayfield.

In this clash between two bottom-half teams, tries by lock Fraser McKenzie, scrum-half Mike Blair, winger Tim Visser and substitute Chris Paterson eased the hosts to victory - only their second since January 2.

Fly-half Greg Laidlaw kicked 12 points to add to his burgeoning reputation.

Aironi were once again dogged and hit back through scores from winger Danwel Demas and number eight Nick Williams but their 19th loss in 20 sees them rooted to the foot of the table.

Edinburgh started brightly and duly went over for an early try when Sale Sharks-bound McKenzie powered over, with Laidlaw converting. The young stand-off then extended their lead with a penalty before being sin-binned soon after. As a result, fly-half James Marshall kicked Aironi onto the scoreboard. In the 27th minute, the ill-discipline continued as locks Esteban Lozada and Marco Bortolami were yellow carded for each side.

But it was the hosts who took advantage of the extra space scoring two tries while the teams were down to 14 men. Firstly Blair touched down and then dazzling wing Visser scampered over with Laidlaw converting both to give Edinburgh a comfortable lead.

However, Visser's opposite number Demas gave Aironi hope with a try just before half-time.

Despite a slow start to the second period, substitute Paterson secured the bonus-point with 20 minutes to go, Laidlaw missing the chance to add the extras.

Williams gave the Italian side a glimmer of hope when he powered over within the last 12 minutes, Marshall converting, but Laidlaw confirmed the victory with a penalty.
