Stephen Donald contributed 18 points via the boot to help Waikato notch a crucial 33-15 ITM Cup win over Tasman in Hamilton on Saturday.
Whilst the win was an important one for the Mooloo Men, the hosts will be disappointed by their failure to secure a four-try bonus point that could have sent them into the top four.
Waikato trailed 10-0 early in the match, but fought back to be take 16-10 lead at half-time. They then piled on the points in the second half to pull out to a comprehensive win.
It moves the Mooloos to 26 points on the ladder, eight behind top of the table Southland.
