Toulouse centre Florian Fritz leaves the pitch bleeding

Dazed: Florian Fritz

Rugby supporters and critics have spoken out after a dazed Toulouse centre Florian Fritz returned to the field of play against Racing Mťtro.

The France centre collided with the knee of Racing lock Francois van der Merwe and was escorted from the pitch with blood pouring from a cut to the head, dazed and confused.

Fritz was promptly stitched up and allowed to return to the field before finally being brought off at half-time for GaŽl Fickou.

The severity of the injury lead to heavy criticism of the decision allowing Fritz to pay on, with calls to IRB chief Brett Gosper to take action.

"I had a small KO. I don't remember everything," Fritz told Canal+ afterwards.

"It was better to leave a fresh guy like GaŽl Fickou [take my place]."
