Montpellier's Scottish back-row, Johnnie Beattie, could be sidelined for the rest of the season thanks to a damaged ankle.

Beattie played a bit-part role in Scotland's Six Nations campaign, named on the bench for the opening two games against Ireland and England, before winning starts at number eight and blindside flanker respectively in the victory over Italy in Rome and narrow defeat to France.

The former Glasgow Warrior was carted off early on against les Bleus, however, and Montpellier now fear his involvement with the Top 14 run-in could be curtailed.

There was more bad news for the side currently sitting third in the league table, as veteran prop Nicolas Mas - who was withdrawn from France's Six Nations clash with Ireland last week clutching an elbow - will be out for around three weeks.
