Returning to Pau: Damien Traille

Former France back Damien Traille has confirmed that he will leave Biarritz to return to his first club, Pau, next season.

The 34-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of this campaign, joined Biarritz from Pau in 2004 and went on to win two Top 14 titles, two European Challenge Cups and play in two European Cup finals.

He played 87 times for France, mostly at centre, from 2001 until his last cap in 2011, scoring 14 tries and 128 points.

However, he was on the losing side in one World Cup final and two World Cup semi-finals, notably against England on home soil in 2007 when he dithered and slipped under pressure from a high ball, allowing Josh Lewsey to score an ultimately decisive try in the second minute.

Although Biarritz are in the Top 14 and Pau in the second division, the two may swap places next season.

Biarritz are 20 points from safety at the bottom of the table and even if they won their last six matches with a bonus point, it probably wouldn't be enough to keep them up.

Pau, meanwhile, are in the promotion play-off picture and come May will likely be vying with La Rochelle, Agen and Narbonne for the second promotion position behind runaway leaders Lyon.

Traille, who is currently out injured with a dislocated shoulder, is the second Biarritz player to announce he will join a second division side next season following fly-half Julien Peyrelongue's announcement he's going to Dax.
