Clermont fly-half Brock James kicked a drop-goal after the final hooter to snatch a 22-all draw against Castres at Stade Pierre-Antoine on Friday.
Clermont were seeking their first win in Castres for 26 years, but will have to settled for two points in what is the third draw between these sides in 13 years.
South African scrum-half Rory Kockott was once again the star for Castres, scoring all of the hosts' points, including a try just before the break to give them a 10-6 lead at half time.
Clermont had dominated the first half but paid the price for Noa Nakaitaci's yellow card after he was sent to bin for taking Antonie Claassen out in the air shortly before Kockott's try.
Clermont were however rewarded with there endeavour in the second period when Julien Bardy crashed over after a strong run from Benson Stanley.
Kockott and James would exchange three-pointers until the Australian's drop with the last kick of the game left the scores all-square.
