Let's begin by the affirmation that I am not French, so no bias here. However, these comments are pretty interesting - how can anyone from anywhere be a lesser player for time with Guy Noves and Toulouse? Any Top 14 team, any NH coach, okay, fair enough. But Noves and ST? That's an awfully deep 'pond' to be speaking about anyone being a 'shark' among goldfish or, worse, wasting time. You're pushing it a bit far.

I guess Mcalistair feels like being a superstar again. Next years Top14 and HC player of the year for sure. Big fish in a small pond (actually the pond is pretty big). More like a shark swimming with goldfish.

NH rugby unions will never learn. Every time they bring in SH players, the door closes for a local talent and the door opens up for one down south.

P.S Thanx for keeping our rugby strong.

well he saw that as a 1st 5/8, there was no chance becoz of DC resigning and as a 2nd 5/8,,the coaches would definitely have gone for nonu or SBW...and for center,,there was smith, kahui and toeava so he so no reason to stay back in NZ..

A good decision too from luke and i wish him all the best..

'McAlister goes to France Too Lose? Any AB going north to play rugby is gonna lose!'

Is this a teen site?

Those who say mccallister is not the player he was when he left for sale are probably correct in that.

However Noves has a wonderful ability to revitalise players and this could be great for mccallister. To give 1 example, caucau was virtually unemployable around 1/2 season ago but now down at the toulousains he is being revitalised beyond belief and if he continues with his progress he will be some player next season again.

You're correct Houston_11 but an article on the AB's site including an interview w/ Graham Henry states that he intends to reward loyalty to NZ as opposed to those leaving for the NH after the RWC and that previous solid performers in the black jersey would also be shown preference. Smith is the first choice 13 and Kahui is good for at least 1 try per game when wearing black. I would chalk Nonu's form this year up to the story recently released about him not being offered a contract for next season. Certainly that had been discussed in private before it came out and would have affected him negatively. I like the Blues and really like McAllister before his time in Sale but since his return he's been a shell of his former self.

Good signing for Toulouse he has a lot of rugby ahead of him. He can play anywhere in the midfield very effectively and has a great boot. Look forward to watching him in the Hcup

I would agree with that 5Lock4Ward but Nonu has only been in form in the last couple of games, Kahui has constantly been injured this season and I think Smith has been carrying injuries as well (correct if I'm wrong on the last one).

McAlister has probably been the most consistent out of all of them... apart from SBW of course.

Who cares? He'd have been better off staying up north leaving us wondering 'what if' instead of coming back to NZ as more proof that when an AB heads north at the top of his game he returns home a worse off player. With Nonu, Smith, SBW and Kahui in the way McAllister is lucky to make the RWC squad in my opinion.
