I'm glad these guys are off to Japan. Blackie, Hewat, but best of all Smith will only improve the standard of Japanese rugby with these guys in their week to week leagues.

I hear you Kiwilad. I just thought that with his general good fortune in the health department we would have seen him either stay in Australia (possibly moving to #8 to allow Pocock to ascend as the first choice open-side) and reach 150 caps or go to a team with solid prospects of winning European hard-ware. I'm sure you're right with that line of thought though.

5Lock4ward I would have thought, with his ability, playing somewhat more meaningful rugby may have had more appeal.
However I wonder if his body may be sending him a different message, and a softer option in Japan, with retirement job written all over it, won out because of the aches and pains.

What's with Australian players going to Japan? Wouldn't you rather win relevant trophies while making your big money? You'd think somewhere along the line an Australian player would want to hold at least one trophy...
