Blues second-row Patrick Tuipulotu admits he was overcome with emotion when finding out he had been named in the New Zealand squad this June.

The in-form 21-year-old has been excellent for the Eden Park outfit this season and was told of the news by Blues boss Sir John Kirwan on Saturday.

"When JK (Kirwan) told me last night after the game I gave him a hug. I had a bit of a scream and a hug," the bulky Tuipulotu told sportal.co.nz.

"I was happy as. I couldn't believe him at first. He had to tell me twice. It was pure joy.

"I can't stop smiling at the moment. It's exciting to have the dream come true."

Tuipulotu went on to explain that he knew the game against the Hurricanes was his last opportunity to make an impression on the All Black selectors, adding that it was a nervy few minutes after the final whistle in Auckland.

"I was anxiously waiting for JK to come over and talk to me. It was pretty good he did," he said before revealing his parents' reaction to the news.

"My mum came into my room last night after I told her and she sat down and asked me again if I'd made it. I told her 'Yeah I did. I already told you'. She looked like she was going to cry.

"Then this morning when my dad dropped me off to the camp he said how he was proud and then he ended up crying. I think it's pretty emotional for them."

And on the prospect of lining up alongside Richie McCaw and other senior players in the coming month, the hard-running second-row forward said it was an exciting feeling.

"It's weird because you watch these guys on TV and as a rugby player you want to know what it's like to be around them and play with them," he added.

"Playing against them is a different story. But being here now I think it's something I'm really looking forward to doing - training with them and learning off them. They're some of the best players in the world."
