England rugby league forward Sam Burgess is reportedly considering a switch to rugby union to play at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
According to News Corp Australia, the Rugby Football Union made a secret approach to Burgess during the Rugby League World Cup held in the UK last November.
Burgess is one of four brothers who ply their trade in the NRL for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
His contract with his club runs until the end of 2016 and there are no get-out clauses in his deal, meaning the Rabbitohs would have to agree to release him.
News Corp said it is understood Burgess will see out his obligations with in the NRL this season but has told the club he might seek a release for 2015.
The report added that the 25-year-old is apparently excited by the prospect of becoming a dual international and playing in front of sellout crowds at Twickenham in rugby union's showpiece.
