Alexander turned down overseas cash

Staying put: Ben Alexander

Brumbies and Wallabies prop Ben Alexander admits he turned down several lucrative opportunities to take his career abroad.

The prop understands Australia skipper Ben Mowen's shock decision to leave the country for France, ending his hopes of featuring in the 2015 World Cup. But Alexander says, at 29 years old, his focus is on silverware with his franchise and national team.

''I'm getting old, I need to start winning some trophies,'' Alexander told the Canberra Times.

''I was tempted to go overseas after the last World Cup to try to develop, but I'm glad I stayed. There's a lot I want to achieve - a Super Rugby title, a World Cup and a Bledisloe Cup.

''I was a bit surprised [about Mowen], but it's totally understandable. It was for him to sort out and we'll look for a big season from him again this year to hopefully take us one step further.''
