Enjoying training: Paul O'Connell

Ireland skipper and British and Irish Lions second-row Paul O'Connell may look to prolong his playing career beyond the 2015 World Cup.

Though reluctant to discuss ongoing contract negotiations with Munster and the IRFU, the 34-year-old may look to continue playing into 2016 if he still feels his body can cope.

"Hopefully, look, my contract - I'm trying to figure out my future at the moment and it is kind of delicate," O'Connell told Setanta Sports.

"It's not something I want to discuss.

"I don't really know. I'd probably like to play up to the next World Cup and that season as well. I'd see where I am after that. If the body is in good shape I'd like to keep going after that. It all depends.

"I enjoy it more than every, I enjoy the training more than ever, which is probably one of the most important things with guys I've seen coming to retirement. They are enjoying the matches and the big days, but they are not necessarily enjoying the training and the preparation that goes into it.

"Hopefully I'll play that season to the World Cup and after the World Cup I'll see after that."

The veteran was thrilled that Munster, Ireland and Lions team-mate Conor Murray has committed his immediate future to the province, signing a two-year deal on Tuesday.

There had been speculation the scrum-half was set for a move to Toulouse in the Top 14.

"I'm delighted Conor has signed up with Munster," O'Connell told the Irish Examiner.

"He is a great player for us, a big leader in terms of how he trains and plays - a great guy to have around, a modest, quiet fella and I'm delighted he has re-signed."
