All Blacks assistant coach Ian Foster hailed the impact Rene Ranger made last week, which may lead to him starting on Saturday.

All Blacks assistant coach Ian Foster hailed the impact Rene Ranger made against France, which adds weight to calls for a starting role this Saturday.

Ranger came on at Eden Park and promptly ran over Yoann Huget before putting in a good shift around the field, which delighted coach Foster.

"I loved the way he [Ranger] played for the team," Foster told sportal.co.nz from Christchurch.

"He did a lot of work off the ball getting into position. Traditionally he likes to get his hands on the ball, but he did it in the right way and made some great decisions after he had made some good runs. He made good decisions in the contact and he'll be well pleased with that."

It seems likely that Israel Dagg may be the man to make way for Ranger, with Ben Smith switching to full-back and Julian Savea staying on the left wing.
