Ospreys wing Eli Walker looks set to miss Wales' tour of Japan in June after undergoing back surgery.
The 20-year-old seemed a strong candidate for a starting place in the two-Test tour since George North and Alex Cuthbert are likely to be named in Warren Gatland's Lions squad.
But those hoped have all but evaporated however after ongoing back issues necessitated surgery this week.
"Eli hasn't shown any improvement following conservative treatment of his back issue, so having taking expert advice he underwent an operation to correct the problem on Tuesday," said Ospreys head physiotherapist Chris Towers.
"Experience of dealing with similar issues suggests that he will be out of action for around 10 to 12 weeks."
