Manu to lead Fiji

Deacon Manu Fji captain World Cup Sep 2011

Fiji skipper: Deacon Manu

Scarlets prop Deacon Manu has been confirmed as Fiji's skipper for Saturday's Test against England at Twickenham.

The 33-year-old led Fiji on their 2010 tour of Europe and in last year's World Cup in New Zealand.

Born in New Zealand, Manu has won 12 Tests caps for Fiji since making his debut against Scotland in 2009.

Fiji coach Inkike Male said Manu, who can play both sides of the scrum but prefers operating as a tighthead prop, would lead from the front against an England side who pride themselves on their set-piece forward strength.

"Manu has led the team before and has shown good leadership skills," said Male.

"With his experience and the respect the boys have in him, I am confident that he has the qualities in him to not only lead the front row, but the whole team."

a Taranaki man! Born New Plymouth and went to my old high school - same one as current ABs Conrad Smith and Beauden Barrett (and the slightly less well known AB & coach John Mitchell). All part of a Taranaki plan for world domination!
