Ferris: Adds to Irish injury headache

Ireland loose forward Stephen Ferris has been ruled out of Saturday's Test match against South Africa in Dublin because of an ankle injury.

A statement issued by the Irish Rugby Football Union said the 27-year-old Ferris, a veteran of 35 internationals, had suffered an ankle injury playing for Ulster on Friday and that the "scale" of the problem would keep him out of both the Springbok clash and the following week's non-cap game with Fiji in Limerick.

The IRFU added no decision had yet been made on Ferris's availability for the Test against Argentina at Aviva Stadium on November 24 with which Ireland will conclude their November Test series.

Ocallahan, Earls, ogara, is the world gone mad????? None of these should be in the squad! Why hasnt Earls put on 2 stone of muscle in last 5 years as the game has moved on, i wager Conway is a better winger and he also is too small, Ryan has to play second row for us to win. Paul doran jones is best irish prop in years but Irfu f ed that up as usual not playing at provincial level but good enough to pack down for England what a joke. Our ten has to engage the bock defence and Rog doesnt do that in Rabo. Madagan a better choice being truthful. Or Ian Humphries Kidney out has been my point since before the tour of NZ and Kidney out is still my thoughts, if he picks Earls, O'Callaghan and Darcy I say Kidney out he has turned us into the laughing stock of the few nations that play rugby.

Dr Death, do you want to count up the English players that are unavailable? Think you'll find you just scored an own goal.

On the plus side all these injuries are forcing Kidney to try out some new players.

Big blow, perhaps one of the few players that could step into any side in the world. Get him rested for the lions

What a disaster. Looks like its going to be the weakest Irish side to take the field for a very long time. Bowe and Sexton are probably the only likely starters to have a realistic chance of making the Lions team. Hard to see where Irelands strengths will lie, not in the pack and not in the back line. Maybe Sexton kicking crossfield kicks to Bowe is our our best form of attack.

Obviously another excellent example of the advantage the Irish provinces have in being able to rest all their best players in the Rabo!
