Surgery required: Dan Lydiate

Wales flanker Dan Lydiate is set to miss his country's end-of-year Tests after suffering a serious ankle injury.

Lydiate, who was voted player of the tournament in last season's Six Nations Championship, was carried off just two minutes into the Dragons' RaboDirect PRO12 clash against Edinburgh.

The 24-year-old was unable to put any weight on his leg, and reports suggest that he has suffered a broken ankle and is set to undergo surgery.

Wales kick off their four-Test programme against Argentina on 10 November.

Not such bad news. He's not the quickest around the park, and we have plenty of choice in back row at the moment.

Welshy - different story at home. Don't forget Wales should how won two of the games, and had refs who couldn't see Wales were murdering the Aussies in the scrum, an outside half not in form, plus Australia have more injuries now (Genia being worth 10 points). Not so worrying when you look at those facts, and Warburton was unfit.

Arse - That really is not good news. Lydiate is superb in defence and reads the game with such ease that he could be accused of being clarevoyent a times. Given some of the stuttering performances from other players recently, it was his workrate and tackling that kept in a number of touch and go games.

On another slant - I think the Rugby Championship has shown how far Wales have to go to be considered a force in world rugby. Australia have beaten us 5 times in a row in a year and were themselves shown to be pretty ordinary against the Kiwis, SA and even Argentina at times. I am expecting a very tough Autumn series!
