Springboks not panicking - Louw

Louw: Accuracy vital at breakdown

Recalled flank Francois Louw said the Boks were not panicking despite being outplayed at the breakdown against Argentina recently.

Louw is set to make an impact off the bench in Saturday's Test against Australia and his addition to the squad is specifically for his ball-poaching abilities.

The 27-year-old, who is plying his trade with Aviva Premiership outfit Bath, last played for the Springboks at last year's World Cup and is raring to go if he gets on the field.

"It is very exciting, it is a massive honour," he said.

"Getting called back to represent your country is a huge situation to be in and I'm just happy to be with the boys now.

"There is no sense of panic at all (in the squad) and everything is not going to be thrown out of the window.

"The most important thing is to stay on task, have composure, work on your mistakes and try and fix those errors and advance on things that you did well on the weekend."

Louw joined the Springbok squad on Monday after playing for Bath at the weekend. Despite not being involved with his national team this year he has kept an eye on their progress, especially in the matches against Argentina.

"They did well in the first game to get the victory while the draw in Mendoza was not an ideal outcome, but that just shows how tough this tournament is and that Argentina is not a side that you can take lightly," he said.

"A game like that is going to be a wake-up call and that is something that we as a team can feed off of going into the last four games."

The former Western Province and Stormers stalwart expects the Wallabies to present a different challenge to what he experiences in the northern hemisphere.

"Australia will bring a different type of game to what I have been used to for the last few months but in terms of being a loose forward your role is the same," he explained.

"You have to hunt those breakdowns, you have to make your tackles and you have to provide options for the backs."

About his role of stealing his opposition's ball and retaining possession for his team, Louw believes accuracy at the breakdown plays an important role as an openside flanker.

"It is an area where you have to be 100 per cent sure about what you are doing," he stated.

"It is a fine line that you walk and to be effective you have to sit on that line but it is a difficult thing to do and you will be punished for any little mistake and then you are three points behind again."

You really would expect Meyer to have the breakdown sorted out after three weeks in camp. time will tell and aussie home advantage will have some baring. Owens as ref shouldn't be too much of an advantage for either team, Owen's perchant for loose running play is balanced nicely by his tendancy towards letting the strongest scrummager impose themselves on the opposition.

I expect SA to win, in a way both coaches are under pressure. We all know about Deans, but Meyer has also had enough time to fix the breakdown issues and we expect an improvement.

Quality player F. Louw. No need for Boks to panick at all. Tis reality that Boks are playing R. Deans' Wobblies and not some super-power team. Boks need to remain calm and play with intensity. It will be worth it to target individual players, who are out of form like N.Sharpe, D. Dennis, K.Beale and B. Barnes. These four together in one team and in the starting line-up is the best thing that can happen to any team opposing the Wobblies. Israel Dagg showed it at Eden Park how it is to be done when he flew past a struggling N.Sharpe to score the decisive try.

He surely isn't panicking since with Bath he became accustomed to loose. So another loss is no reason to panic. Maybe they will realize how deeply the Sa rugby has declined when they`ll finish bottom of the table. Surely that will happen next year. I see bok rugby being worse than aussie. Oz can fix their problems in time. Players will arrive, their style is still playable while the boks can have all the talent because they will bully almost nobody soon.
