In the era of professional sports player managers have become GODS, even bigger than the players themselves. The managers can make or break a player with their advice.

1. Calos Tevez (football)- Westham & Manchester United & Manchester City.

there were issues from the time he came to England and joined Westham , which continued tiil last year.

2. Kevin Pieterson (cricket) - England and Essex? He is in the spotlight these days.

3. SBW (rugby union and league) - NZ (and a few clubs i fail to recall ) He is also in the spotlight for various reasons.

4. mike tyson (boxer) and Floyd Mayweather (boxer) - both went to prison while MT is said to be barely making a living after winning millions in his youth.

Just 4 cases but in all the managers played a major role in the contracts , the public statements , the apologies , etc. and most importantly the percieved advice and "managing" of the person.

If a player is lucky he/she will be blessed with a caring and professional manager with good intentions. the first name that comes to mind is David Beckham, an aging footballer whose shelf life seems to be increasing every year!!!

Another is Roger federer but then he is managed by his wife so... :)

Its not just about the money, but also public image and respect as well. Some of the football players make insane money, but the image and respect may not be there (mario ballatolli, louiz suarez). unfortunately Quade Cooper too seems to fall into this "bad boy" lot. he is a talented rugby player in a world that hates to acknowledge any people who dont conform to the "normal".

a reminder on QC as 'Public Enemy Number One'. He was not 'labelled' as such - that was his own self-proclaimed title made in a Twitter statement by him pre RWC, not imposed upon him by NZ or their media.

He probably thought it was clever at the time. Turned out it had made him little but 'Dickhead #1' in many people's eyes. Reminded again of Hansen's statement last week, about Australia liking to doing the talk before tests, and the All Blacks preferring to leave it to the game itself.

three6three6, I really dont think NZ crowds have been unnecessarily harsh on Quade or the Aussies, that's part of home ground advantage and not that I'm into it (booing) but I'm sure he and they can handle a little booing or whatever the locals decide to do to attempt to put them off.. we haven't threatened them, or their lives, rioted, thrown things at them, started hate blogs, attacked players (or the ref), or anything too sinister.. the situation involves our neighbours and long time rivals, coached by a Kiwi, with public enemy number 1 a Kiwi who is playing for our biggest rivals.. most of us would go to war for the Aussies but on the sports field we respect them but we want to take them down. We expect the same in return so stop being a sook.

And despite having the same manager as Quade Cooper, SBW stll talks to the media for free! The professional world - note that QC would only did a one-line statement to media yesterday, but earlier in week did two paid interviews for Fox Sport. Not aimed at him - presume on advice or contract thru manager - suppose this could be the way of the future where everything in their 'personal franchise' has a price.

No such thing as a free lunch (and no free autographs either?)

R. Deans is a curse of Wallabies rugby. Worst coach. Time to get him a sack. Q. Cooper can tear the ABs to shreds but can he count on inconsistent performers like N. Sharpe and D. Dennis. Tis absolutely crazy how both have been retained and in the starting line-up too. R. Deans is just provincial rugby level coach and myopic too. Go back to Canterbury

@jonesy2, you want me to use English like this from you?

jonesey2 says this about Scotland vs. Oz: "anyone failing to recognise the probability that scotland are going to concede a crazy amount of tries are just being completely dilusional. im not saying that its impossible for scotland to win but predicting an upset is just pathetic because its only done out of spite and so easy to turn around and claim that australia should have won all along if the wallabies get up. all you claim you think scotland can win, go down to the TAB and put half your latest or next pay check on that result then....... whats that? thought so.

ABT is short for "Avoid Being Tackled" a very useful abbreviation when writing about Quade Cooper...good luck for the weekend...you are going to need it...you are the Scotland of the SH.

Jonesy2, I could read, follow and understand everything J4A was posting.

So the problem does not lie there, perhaps a peep a little closer to home?

three6three6.. i think the question is , can cooper resist another cheap shot while mccaw is caught up in a ruck, or on the ground, or while his back is turned!

While it may appear unsportsmanlike from the nz public, i agree with henry in that hes largely brought it upon himself..and when he says thats the way he plays and makes no appologies then thats just adding fuel to the fire!!

What I do hope is that the NZ crowd is gracious towards Quade and to the Wallabies in general. We have seen particularly unsavoury crowd behoviour towards the Wallabies - the crowd booing them on to the pitch.... As for Quade, well there is no need for a repeat of the RWC behaviour from the NZ crowd.

Can the NZ crowd put their boorish behaviour behind them.... well for just one match? Let us hope so for the sake of good quality entertaining rugby!

He'll certainly be motivated...the question is...to do what? I predict that we see incredibly flashy evasive moves used to avoid being tackled and the occasional throwing of the ball into the air behind his own goal line to ABT as well as lots of Oz training ground moves designed to enable Cooper to avoid having to make a tackle....good that he's sucking up to SBW. He is going to be a bit short of friends in the stadium so 1 more will help, even if SBW is patting him on the head as he passes on his way to the try line. I predict that McCaw will be a real gentleman and help QC to his feet on the several occasions that QC is not able to get rid of the ball in time to ABT.
