A few years back there was discussion on the use of dietary supplements and the apparent increase in injury rate among (predominantly English Premiership) players, at the time, use of the supplements such as Maximuscle was prohibited in Australian rugby.

The comments at the time were based around players gaining muscle bulk that they were not genetically designed to carry causing unsustainable strain the "elastics" that hold everything together.

At the time, the main proponents of these supplements in the UK were Wasps.

I have wondered for a while why, given the apparent benefits to the Wales structure of Cryogenic chamber use, no-one else was using them.

Now I am no medical expert but the little reading I have done about these things suggests that, whilst there seems to be long-term benefits in terms of cell-repair and regeneration, the only short-term benefit seems to be of pain relief, presumably meaning that players can train for longer periods with shorter rest-periods.

Trouble is, pain is more than an indication of fatigue and if, small injuries are being masked and players are putting their bodies under more pressure, does the potential for more long-term injury layoffs increase?

How many of the welsh eps have fallen inured since the 6N? Is this all the ugly ghost of cryo therapy combined with multiple training sessions?

Wales can't afford both centres to be missing. Williams and Beck don't want a baptism of fire, and lets face it Hook cannot be considered at centre!
