Anxious wait: Matt Garvey

Bath are facing a nervy wait over the fitness of Matt Garvey, with the Aviva Premiership club fearing the back-row's season might be over.

Bath are facing an anxious wait over the fitness of flank Matt Garvey, with concern over whether the powerful forward will miss the season run-in.

Garvey, who limped off against Wasps in the Amlin Challenge Cup win on Sunday, will miss this week's Premiership game with Northampton.

And the fate of the 26-year-old in terms of the rest of the campaign remains up in the air, as he joins fellow back-row Francois Louw on the sidelines.

"Garvs is not in a great shape. He is with the consultants now to see the extent of the damage but it's not going to be short term I don't think," head coach Toby Booth told the Bath Chronicle.

"We don't know if it's his season over.

"He came down poorly at a lineout and rolled his ankle. He's a big guy and when you come down from a height you're always going to take a little bit of damage.

"He's still on crutches and in a boot but you've got to wait for the swelling to go down and the consultants to have a look.

"It's bitterly disappointing because he was exceptional on Sunday and has been one of our leading players throughout the year.

"We're disappointed for him but we are a tight squad and Carl Fearns has come back from injury great and Flow is pretty much where he needs to be. He won't make it this week but will be there soon after."
