i dont really like lists being published id rather they just annonce the winner at the end of the tourament and the contenders for us debate..Lists imo take away the fact its a team sport .Yes ROG made 2 great DPs but it was the work of the whole team that got him in a position to get them is just one example so honouring ROG only for it imo is wrong.Same can be said for all the other contenders aswell

Munster would have been out at the pool stages without O'Gara pulling the strings. like him or loathe him, you have to admire him. He fully deserves his place on the list - although I cannot for the life of me see the point of this exercise before the knockout stages where the most influential players will come to the fore.

Yea, Isa Nacewa should be on this list, if I was betting on this I'd go for Sexton, especially as Leinster look like they are very much contenders to do the double with their team coming to the boil nicely and a fresh hungry BOD and the steely Thorn adding an extra dimension...if Leinster do the double, Sexton has to be in the mix as they won't do it without big performances from him in defence, attack and the boot...in a way JS should have won this last year over O' Brien, as without JS last year there is no way Leinster would have won the final, that performance alone should have sealed it for him....so he's due one!

@APV1 - With Barnes and Jones on that panel I honestly cannot see any English player being in contention.

My list would be

Brown

Dusautoir

Fofana

Ferris

Sexton

With Farrell just missing out - only as I think Sexton has been a life saver for his club. Personally I think Mike Brown is the standout player

for me, his whole attitude has changed so much and he has worked so hard to improve. Plaudits from a Wasps fan.....

If I had to pick from that list, I'd pick either Wesley Fofana or Owen Farrel but I feel that there is other players not mentioned n the list such as Simon Zebo, Peter O'Mahony, Ian Madigan, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Ruan Pienaar, Mike Brown, Conor Murray etc.. . . The list, as always goes on, but I feel many on the aforementioned list dont deserve their place. This is just my opinion.

This is a very long list... Surely it makes very little sense for the European player of the Year to not make it to the final... or at least the semi final of the H Cup.

Surprised at the exclusion of Simon Zebo considering how much of a difference he made to his pool and the whole tournament by effectively single handedly ending Northampton...

yelloj321, winning two matches in a row with the last kick of the game will do that for a player.

@ yelloj321

ogara made it because if it werent for him munster might not have qualified

remeber the two drop goals, one saved them from a defeat and one saved them from a draw

also his reliable boot in all matches, so shut up asking how the hell he got there, he his a quality player who his ending his career on a high.

however that said imo sexton deserves it.

@APV1 Gerry Thornley is the reason ROG is on the list. ;)

What the heck is O'Gara doing on that list?

As it was a loose forward who won last year I feel that Ferris won't make it. So I'm going for Timoci Matanavou who has been very incisive for Toulouse.

I'd definitely vote for Sexton.

APV1 says...

"The judging panel comprises of Stuart Barnes (Sky Sports), Raphael Ibanez (Heineken Cup Ambassador), Stephen Jones (Sunday Times), Emmanuel Massicard (Midi Olympique) and Gerry Thornley (Irish Times)."

Now, I don't know Massicard or Thornley, but I do have a lot of time and respect for Ibanez. But Barnes and Jones..?! Really?! Two more inept pundits you'd be hard pressed to find (although some of my fellow-posters are, obviously, more idiotic, but beyond them these two are Class A berks!)!

With regards to the final 5, and considering this is based on ERC only:

Dusautoir

Ferris

Brown

Farrell

Fofana

With Jenkins and Morgan just missing out.

All of whom have carried their 6N form through to the European competitions.

How the hell did O'Gara get on the list. Either Fofana or Sexton for me. I'd probably side with Sexton
