Todd Clever: Leading from the front

Mike Tolkin, the new coach of the USA Eagles, has confirmed that loose forward Todd Clever will retain the national captaincy.

Tolkin took over from Eddie O'Sullivan at the helm of the Eagles in February and has made his first major decision in the position by sticking with Clever.

"Todd has been an exceptional leader and representative of USA Rugby during his stint as captain. He leads through his hard and uncompromising play and through his extensive experience at the international level," Tolkin told the Official USA Rugby website.

"I look forward to me and the staff working together with Todd and the rest of the squad to continue to improve the Eagles for the American fans."

Clever, who made his international debut in 2003, has captained the Eagles 20 times since 2008 and led them at last year's World Cup.

@MontyRN, He was capped once in a test against Georgia and was put in a position where he had to choose between signing a contract w/ the Saints or playing for the Eagles at RWC 2011. He obviously chose the Saints. However since this upcoming June test series is in the regular IRB test match window I'm hoping to see him get a few more Eagles caps.

Has Manoa not been capped yet? How on earth has he slipped through the net! Classy player, pushing to be Saints best signing this season.

I'll be in Canada in June to see the Eagles and I hope to see Clever, Ngwenya etc. but I really want to see Manoa get his 1st cap since turning pro. I'm imagining a pack w/ Manoa at #8. I can't wait.
