Brace: Tom Varndell crossed for two tries

Wasps wing Tom Varndell ran in two tries for the second time in as many games as England Saxons beat the United States comfortably in Denver on Sunday.

Varndell followed up his double against Russia last time out with two more today with Anthony Allen and Duncan Bell also going over for the Saxons.

Alex Goode (two) and Stephen Myler were successful with three conversion attempts with the former also landing two penalties.

The United States' points all came from Volney Rouse penalties.

Meanwhile, Canada stunned France A to claim a 33-27 win and qualify for the first time for the Churchill Cup final.

Brian Erichsen crossed for the key try in the 70th minute at Infinity Park in Glendale, Colorado, before the Canadians survived late French pressure to seal the win and top Pool A.

Aaron Carpenter and Matt Evans also touched down for Canada, for whom Ander Monro kicked 12 points.

Lionel Beauxis kicked 17 points for the French, whose tries came from Thibault Lacroix and Yohan Audrin.
