Saracens and Namibia flanker Jacques Burger is edging closer to a full recovery from a persistent knee injury ahead of the new season.
Burger has been kept on the sidelines for the majority of the last two years, but is back in pre-season training with Saracens ahead of the new campaign starting in September.
Happy to just be back on the training field for now, Burger told the club's website about his struggles and his joy at getting closer to full fitness.
"I'm finding the training pretty good. There's a bit of the summer heat which makes it nice; it's great to be back out there" he said.
"Today was my first session of proper running so it feels really good and I'm excited to get out training with the guys in a couple of weeks.
"I just had a clean out this summer, so it is nothing too serious and it (knee) feels really good; I've been working pretty hard and it has been a tough couple of weeks, but my strength is coming back in my knee really well, the physios are pretty happy with me and I'm looking forward to the season now.
"It still early days, so I've not really had a run through with the rest of the squad and that is the hard part, so for me I want to get out there and get familiar with the basic drills again, and get testing the knee out.
"I'm excited; I think I'll be back ready to play just before the start of the season which is ideal, as I may be involved in some of the preseason matches; so if that all works out, and I'm sure it will, then it's going to be a terrific time to come back."
