There's no TV coverage at all. Kidney is finally forced into putting up a somewhat experimental team and we can't see it...

blametheref,
Both Earls and Wallace have played with effect internationally at fullback and second five-eighth, respectively, but I can see how tactics could belittle the influence of both on the match. Were the Irish camp trying to somewhat emulate Leinster in attack, however, Wallace ousts Downey every time. If we see the Ulsterman carry into contact more often that not, he's a wasted selection.
D'Arcy is no fullback.

Thats not a bad squad. Im delighted to see Thouy and Henry FINALLY getting their shot.
I dont even have a problem with Wallace starting, he was great for Ulster all year and brings out the best in Cave. Spence on the bench too, good good.
Predictiably, I only have an issue with the half backs, but even then, its not a huge issue. In a dream world Id start Madigan/Keatley, one of them with the other on the bench, see what they can do. But I can understand why neither of them are there.
Earls at full back, he doesnt like it, wouldnt it have been good to choose Murphy for all his experience, or maybe even Gavin Duffy who had a fine season?
Id also have O'Hallaran on the bence over Trimble.
But these are only minor quibbles.
Look at all the support you get Declan, if you just experiment a little!

Leinster contingent unavailable... and as I Leinster supporter I wonder... this must be what it's like to support Ulster the past 13 odd years... there are several Red-Hand lads who've been utterly neglected while following the Stiddy/Dickie selection policy of Munster first and foremost followed by players whom he knows personally and who are established again with Munster first... then established Leinster players, then perhaps Ulster and Connacht and then exiles and finally form players and talented youngsters... (from Munster if possible) ... can't fault that system. Some of those lads have been playing out of their skins for soooo long, and now here's their just reward... no cap against a depressingly weak and increasingly pointless Baabaas team that makes a mockery of their own great tradition. Hope they feel as grateful as I feel to Iddie O'Kidney for his wonderful services to Irish rugby.

I can see Ireland's scrum being demolished here big time but what can we do we don't have back up props to Ross and Healy d barbarians to be leading at half time only for fatigue to set in in the second half and Ireland to win in the end with the help of our bench bring on the all blacks haha

@Staph_glorious
My problem with this line up is that though P. Wallace may have had a good season he is simply not an international 12 as Earls is not an effective 15, in that they just don't work for Ireland in these positions and never will. So why persist with something that is not on. I would prefer, for this game to see Cave tried at 12 with Earls at 13 and even Wallace at 10 with O' Gara on the bench, or visa versa, and see can anything be achieved from that...I'm aware Kidney might be concerned about the full back berth but I think the situation in the centre, especially at 12, is more important, that's why Downey should be in this squad as don't forget D'arcy can play at full back if required

Good to so many young players, particularly Fitzpatrick, Zebo and O'Gara playing I was hoping that they would get some opportunities to develop their game.

JoseArtigas. You are absolutely right. It is not a development tour. It looks like a lambs to the slaughter tour. Too many injuries to vital players at this stage to hope for an upset

great selection by Kidney - although somewhat handicapped by the unavailability of the Leinster contingent...it will be interesting to see how the front row performs as it it one of the positions where Ireland don't have great strength in depth

blametheref,
Who else gets there?
Wallace is Ireland's best performing #12 this season, while ROG's only available competition for this fixture is Paddy Jackson who, after a poor Heineken Cup final, might be captaining the U20s to a World Cup. He needs to find his feet again, and that won't happen at Kingsholm.

There will be comments that Jackson or Keatley should start and I still don't understand why some frequent posters on this site believe Ireland are going to New Zealand on a "development tour", that's incorrect. ROG needs a run out before the tour. Seeing as the Leinster players are unavailable it's a good pick. Hope it'll be a decent match and we see good showings from the front row and outside backs especially.
