England have been nominated as the lead nation to qualify on behalf of Team GB for both the men's and women's Sevens showpieces in Rio.
The British Unions (The Rugby Football Union, Scottish Rugby Union and Welsh Rugby Union) agreed on England, who must finish in the top four of this season's IRB Sevens World Series.
Following the release of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Rugby Board (IRB) Olympic qualification systems the British Unions had previously agreed that the team who finished highest in the 2013/14 season would be the nominated lead for the upcoming campaign.
Should the England sides not qualify via this season's Series, qualification for Rio's 2016 Games can be achieved at the 2015 IRB Regional Championships and a final World Repechage.
A GB Sevens Company is in the process of being formed and will soon be put forward to the British Olympic Association (BOA) for recognition as the National Governing Body (NGB).
