Scotland Sevens head coach Stephen Gemmell has named his squad that will travel to Tokyo for the sixth leg of the HSBC IRB World Sevens Series.

Centre Neil Herron will be in with a chance of winning his first international Sevens cap.

Herron is also joined by Glasgow Warriors players Finlay Gillies and Scott Wight, who were involved in the last round of tournaments on the circuit.

"I'm pleased to be able to name Neil [Herron] in this squad for the first time. He worked extremely hard to get back to full fitness and has had game time with the Scotland U20 team in the Six Nations," said Gemmell.

"Neil is an exciting young player and I'm looking forward to see what he can bring on the World Series.

"We also appreciate Glasgow Warriors' support in releasing two players to travel with us."

The remainder of the side is made up of full-time professionals and club players, with Chris Dean returning for the first time since, Dubai and Heriot's' and British Army's Joseva Nayacavou returning having been involved in Port Elizabeth in December.

Colin Gregor will once again lead the team as captain.

Gemmell continued: "I have named a familiar group of players in this squad who work together everyday and know how we're capable of playing. Training has gone well, so we now need to put any previous disappointments behind us and move forward.

"We have another big opportunity against England, Australia and Spain and although we're third seeds in the pool and know how difficult the matches will be, we are as ever be aiming to qualify for the Cup competition."

Scotland 7s: Scott Riddell, Finlay Gillies (Glasgow Warriors), Mark Robertson, Alex Glashan, Colin Gregor, Chris Dean, Andrew Turnbull, Michael Maltman, Neil Herron, Scott Wight (Glasgow Warriors), James Johnstone and Joeseva Nayacavou (Heriot's and British Army).
