Golden Lions fly-half Marnitz Boshoff has been ruled out of the whole of the Currie Cup after suffering a broken arm in the opening game.
Boshoff was forced off during the Golden Lions' comprehensive 41-13 win over the Blue Bulls in their Currie Cup opener on Saturday.
He will now undergo surgery and faces three months on the sidelines, which would keep him out of the remainder of the competition.
It's a huge blow for the Golden Lions, and the player himself, who had enjoyed a fantastic Super Rugby season in Johannesburg.
The 25-year-old did enough to earn a call-up for the Springboks, making his international debut in the final June Test against Scotland.
His injury was not the only blow the Golden Lions were dealt at the weekend, with wingers Anthony Volmink and Lloyd Greef also done for the season because of shoulder and knee problems respectively.
The Lions continue their Currie Cup campaign at home to the EP Kings this weekend, with Jaco van der Walt likely to step in for Boshoff, having come on in his place last time out.
