Fourie: Staying in Cape Town

Western Province hooker cum flank Deon Fourie has decided to stay with the Currie Cup-winning side next season and not play in France.

A few months ago it was reported that Fourie was set to take up an offer from top French club Toulon, and ply his trade overseas.

However, the 25-year-old has done a U-turn and opted to stay in Cape Town with Western Province and the Stormers.

"My move to Toulon came with a few hiccups, but I'm delighted to stay in Cape Town," he said.

"That decision was made before the Currie Cup final, so you can imagine how I feel being part of this winning team. I don't see myself playing for another union or franchise."

The Western Province skipper put in a man-of-the-match performance during last Saturday's Currie Cup final win over the Sharks in Durban, and is looking forward to building on the team's success next season.

"It's been a long time coming, but we've finally crossed the finish line," he said.

"I'm looking forward to building on to this success next season. With some experienced guys coming back from injury and the youngsters who've emerged during the Currie Cup, we have a strong squad."

Good news for Stormers and SA. Should be in the Bok squad.

Very good player and very good captain--he would be an international in most countries but SA has this dumb conservative wish to pick BIG loose forwards regardless of ability--

If Kolisi Fourie Elstadt Vermeulen and Burger are all fit and available next year --leave out Burger.
