Auckland got their ITM Cup campaign off to a winning start on Sunday as they edged out North Harbour 27-20.
Played in front of 5,513 at Eden Park, Auckland's strong start proved sufficient in holding off a late challenge from their Championship visitors.
Lolagi Visinia, Piri Weepu, Sam Prattley and Luke Braid scored the four tries while James Parsons and Ray Niuia would reply for North Harbour.
Simon Hickey was solid at fly-half in Gareth Anscombe's absence and will need to be again when Auckland face Manawatu next weekend.
