Waikato defended the Ranfurly Shield for the second time in three weeks after they comfortably overcame East Coast 65-10 in Ruatoria on Tuesday.
The Mooloos, who had scored thirteen tries against Horowhenua-Kapiti last time out, crossed seven times in a good second-half after a slow start.
"I've never really played in front of a crowd like this," said Waikato wing Tim Mikkelson to Newstalk ZB after grabbing a brace of tries on the day.
"There's trucks on the sideline, everyone's into it."
Northland will be the next side to go up against Waikato for the Log o' Wood when the two teams meet in the first round of the ITM Cup competition.
