Try! Frazier Climo scores for Taranaki
The Ranfurly Shield will reside in Taranaki until next year thanks to a 29-11 ITM Cup win over Hawke's Bay in New Plymouth on Sunday.
The Amber and Blacks fly-half Beauden Barrett kicked 19 points as he guided the home side to their seventh win of the year with another perfect display from the kicking tee as well as directing traffic with a cool head.
Just four days after taking the Log o' Wood from Southland, the Taranaki forwards put on a huge perfromance with Scott Waldrom, Jarrad Hoeata and skipper Craig Clarke leading the way.
Left wing Frazier Climo scored the game's first try, leaving Barrett with an easy conversion before his third penalty gave Taranaki a 16-3 lead at half time.
Jayden Hayward's try early in the second half put the result beyong doubt with the Magpies' only reply coming in the form of wing Richard Buckman's try on the hour mark.

Yes, I was at the King Country game - great to see Colin Meads, Bryan Williams, John Wereta, Graham Henry and others supporting the Maroon and Gold! Great weather, great day organised by Taranaki and King Country rugby unions. Having the Shield choppered in with Dave Loveridge was a great part of the day. Pity it was too cool for that streaker to have to wear full clobber!!
Would be great if Planet Rugby included the NZ Heartland results in the regular reports as well!! How about it guys??

before the ITM Cup gets underway Taranaki has hosted two Ranfurly Shield challenges, 27 July beating King Country 67-16 in a sellout game at Inglewood (population 2590, stadium 6500) and today a 51-7 win over Meads Cup holders Wanganui. Far more important than a Super final in Hamilton 200km north!
Good preparation for the ITM matches ahead.

Just think if it wasnt for that home town call by the Manawatu assistant referee in Palmerston North the Naki would be in the final wth a home town venue. A very costly wrong call. Well just have to cheer on Hawkes Bay and hope justice prevails.
