Off target: Leigh Halfpenny

Cardiff Blues boss Phil Davies is confident Leigh Halfpenny will bounce back from missing two kicks in his side's loss to the Ospreys.

The Wales full-back, voted British and Irish Lions Man of the Series following his exploits in Australia in June and July, missed twice - one from in front of the posts - in difficult conditions at the Arms Park.

"It was tough for both kickers (Halfpenny and Ospreys' Dan Biggar); they both kicked well considering the conditions," Davies told Wales Online.

"Leigh is our match-winner. He's won us games in the past and will win us more in the future."

Despite the defeat, Davies was pleased with his the Blues' efforts.

"We were quite exciting at times with some of the rugby we played but other parts of it was a little bit frustrating," added Davies.

"We made a couple of little errors and maybe we didn't get enough momentum because of those.

"We tried to play a bit of rugby, as did the Ospreys. It was quite an open game in that respect. But there's frustration because we didn't get the win we wanted.

"When we started to keep the ball and look after it we looked threatening. We had a couple of charge-down decisions go against us near the end of the game which I wasn't sure about.

"We created some opportunities through some good keep-ball and by applying some good defensive pressure around the rucks.

"There was a good crowd and a great atmosphere - it was just a pity we didn't win the game.

"We want to keep playing well, like we did against the Ospreys. We have had a few good occasions in Europe and in the Pro12, and this was another.

"We want to give the supporters something to shout about. We have to keep working hard to get the results we want moving forward."
