Moving forward: Cardiff Blues

Cardiff Blues director of rugby Phil Davies has highlighted the need for his side to put together a winning run after last week's victory over Treviso.

The Blues will now turn their attention to the LV= Cup following a 17-13 win over the Italians and will this week face Worcester at the Arms Park.

And for Davies that triumph filled him with pride seeing as his side was without nine international players due to Wales call-ups during November.

"We are getting better. We are not where we want to be, but we are gaining momentum, moving forward and growing as a group through good experiences and tough ones," he told Cardiff Blues' website.

"We are going to try and balance selection as much as we can these next few weeks. We need to give certain boys up front a recovery and refresh. They will probably be on the bench as opposed to starting.

"We will mix and match the team a little but want to keep winning. I am mindful of who has played so many minutes so we have got to manage that to keep freshness in the group for when we return to the RaboDirect PRO12 and the Heineken Cup.

He added: "It was important to finish this block of games with a win."

"The players are in the dressing room and they are smiling, laughing and joking. That's great and, as a coach, that is why I do the job for.

"There was lots to admire - also lots that we could do better, of course. But the second half, the way we defended was outstanding, and a great credit to them all.

"Many players were very good. Josh Navidi was outstanding, absolutely outstanding.

"Dan Fish played well and did what he is capable of. He is dangerous and set up the second try with a great catch when the ball was all over the shop in the wind.

"He's a talent and it's a shame he had to come off with a dead leg. Hopefully that's not too bad.

"As a unit we were very cohesive, maybe more so without the ball today, so I am proud as it was a good, tough performance."
