Try scorer: James Coughlan

Munster ran in five tries to comfortably defeat Edinburgh 34-23 at Musgrave Park in the RaboDirect Pro12.

Munster were at their destructive best as tries from Denis Hurley, James Coughlan, James Cronin, Ivan Dineen and JJ Hanrahan gave the three-champions a thoroughly deserved bonus point win.

Scotland international Nick De Luca and 25 year-old winger Lee Jones both scored for the visitors who were put to the sword by a clinical Munster side at Musgrave Park.

The Irish side will be brimming with confidence ahead of next week's match at Zebre while Edinburgh will hoping to reduce their error count when they take on the Dragons on Friday.

Edinburgh went in front with a 10th minute penalty from Piers Francis but Munster responded in devastating style with two tries in as many minutes.

The hosts went from one wing to the other as Hurley touched down to score his side's first try of the new season before captain Coughlan, after a hugely fortunate bounce from Johne Murphy's grubber kick, crossed over the whitewash, with Ian Keatley converting.

Both sides added a penalty each before academy graduate Cronin gave the home side a commanding lead on the half hour mark with a try on his first competitive start for Munster as the hosts lead by 16 points at the break.

De Luca gave the visitors hope, showing some dazzling footwork to score Edinburgh's first try of the campaign early in the second half, which Francis duly converted.

But centre Dineen secured the bonus point for Munster as he gathered Keatley's perfectly weighted pass to cross over on the left-wing only two minutes later.

Replacement Harry Leonard kicked his first penalty of the evening to reduce Edinburgh's deficit to nine points but Hanrahan went over to score his side's fifth try after 70 minutes.

The 21-year-old back converted his own try but Alan Solomons' men battled till the end and they were rewarded as the ball was spread from right to left and Jones evaded two tackles to cross over the whitewash. But it was too little too late for Edinburgh who were largely outplayed by a strong Munster side in Ireland.
