Sam Warburton for Cardiff Blues

Tough game: Sam Warburton

Cardiff Blues flanker Sam Warburton has hailed the character shown by his team-mates following their hard-fought victory over the Dragons on Saturday.

The Blues entered the game on the back of a loss to Edinburgh, but hit back with a 16-5 success at Rodney Parade that made it two wins out of three.

"This derby is always so tough and straight away we knew this was going to be one of the hardest games of the season," said captain Warburton.

"Dragons definitely didn't fail to deliver on that and they made it very tough and we had to work so hard.

"I am absolutely delighted with the performance. Last week we were so disappointed to lose to that drop-goal to Edinburgh in the last five minutes, and we really wanted to get a win (at Newport).

"The first ten minutes of the second half were really good for us. We managed to have some decent territory and we came out on top points wise."
