DTH Van Der Merwe Glasgow Warriors 2012

Two tries: DTH van der Merwe

Glasgow Warriors beat Ospreys 28-10 at Liberty Stadium on Friday to condemn the defending PRO12 champions to their third defeat in as many games.

Ospreys are still waiting on their first win of the season while Warriors open their account.

Good early pressure on the visitor's line was all for nothing, as Glasgow winger DTH van der Merwe took advantage of a cross-kick to charge 90 metres while evading Dan Biggar's chase to dot down after only three minutes.

In what could only be put down to a bad day at the office in the Liberty Stadium, the first half was ended with a 0-15 deficit, as Chris Fusaro added a second try on the half hour after taking advantage of indecision by Rhys Webb at the back of his scrum. Dan Weir converted, adding to his 13th minute penalty goal for what was to be an unassailable lead.

Chris Cusiter became an early casualty, but his side maintained their early momentum, as Henry Pyrgos stood in well for the injury-prone scrum-half. The Ospreys started the second period on the font foot, but that was undone by the sin-binning of scrum-half Webb for obstruction only five minutes in.

Both sides were down to fourteen men as James Eddie went for ten minutes after pulling down a driving maul, before Ian Evans finally put points on the board for the Ospreys as he drove over the line.

Although Dan Biggar converted, three minutes later, Canadian international van der Merwe got his second after spinning out a tackle to score for a 25-7 lead on 54 minutes after Weir added the extras.

The final quarter failed to see any further tries, and with Biggar and Ruaridh Jackson swapping penalty goals, the Warriors finally got their season underway.

Stop trying to justify you the greed and manipulation currently being shown by the English clubs.

sextons_on_fire - sadly having a team with a significant number of internationals in (or at least in the squad), playing such crap is no good for anyone. They've had one of the worst recruitment policies I've ever seen, and its scant consolation now that they beat a certain Irish team to win the final last year!

What was annoying was that Glasgow had little to offer other than good tackling. The tackle count was ridiculous and would normally have suggested a comfortable win for the Ospreys.

Glasgow were the better team by some distance on the night.

Well done.

@Melkdave failing to get in the play-off places will lose them revenue, failing to finish above the Dragons means they're in the Amlin Cup next year. So I would say there's something to play for, save your HC arguments for other threads.

The question is do these defeats really matter???.except for pride wining or losing league games have absolutly no consequrnces at all.Maybe this year Ospreys are concentrating on the HEC ,if so watch out all.Or maybe they are suffering a hangover from being champions who knows ,but win or lose the match was meaningless in the overall scope of things.
