Jeremy Thrush: Wants another big effort

Hurricanes lock and stand-in skipper Jeremy Thrush is relishing the prospect of facing the Chiefs in Hamilton on Friday.

Hurricanes lock and stand-in skipper Jeremy Thrush is relishing the prospect of facing the Chiefs in Hamilton on Friday.

Thrush and his side must win this encounter, if they want to reach the play-offs, as they have a bye for the last round of matches whic h will be played the following weekend.

And while last weekend's victory over the Crusaders - the second time the Hurricanes have beaten the Christchurch-based franchise this season- was something to savour, Thrush emphasised how important it is to beat the defending champions, who are also under pressure to reach the tournament's knockout stages after losing to the Highlanders.

"It's another big one for us," he told Sportal.

"That's the challenge for us and we talked about it in the huddle after the game.

"Good teams they go on and they play another good game next week and that's something we've struggled to do this year.

"The focus this week will be making sure we can pull out another good effort on Friday.

"It shouldn't be hard to get up for it.

"We win this one and we're in a good position to reach our goal of getting in the playoffs and then anything can happen after that."
