Crusaders talisman Richie McCaw has sustained a suspected broken thumb during his side's clash with the Blues on Friday.
The All Black veteran was taken for x-rays post-match, and is set to miss several weeks of Super Rugby if the injury is confirmed.
McCaw's Crusaders outfit are currently without any points after the opening two Rounds of the tournament, with boss Todd Blackadder typically frustrated after Saturday's 35-24 defeat in Auckland.
"We were under a lot of pressure then we came back and it felt like we had control of the game," admitted Blackadder.
"Then two mistakes and bang, bang, we were under pressure once again.
"Then in the second half we just piled the pressure back on ourselves by making those errors once again and you are into playing catch-up.
"Once we had control of the game we just let the foot off the throat and allowed them to come back into it which was disappointing.
"Momentum shifts [like those in the game] quite often come down to individual errors and mistakes made allow a team back in, and then another mistake's made and it is really around individual skill sets at critical times."
