Tom Taylor: Cost his side a try against the Hurricanes

Crusaders centre Tom Taylor will be a man on a mission in Saturday's play-off with the Reds in Christchurch.

Taylor is determined to redeem himself after costing his side a certain try in last weekend's clash against the Hurricanes.

After spotting a gap, he opted to make a dart for the try-line and ignored the unmarked Ryan Crotty outside him.

He paid a painful price for his indiscretion as the gap closed, no try was scored and he took a big hit from Hurricanes full-back James Marshall which forced him to leave the field.

"I don't really know what I was thinking, I can't really remember too much either to be honest," Taylor told Fairfax Media.

"But, yeah, I have looked at the clips and it was certainly on to pass."

But despite his selfishness, Taylor's botched try didn't cost his side the match. He was also cleared of concussion and will line up in the midfield against the Reds.

He is still uncertain what part of Marhsall's body he connected with.

"I'm not too sure," added Taylor.

"I think it was the elbow or the shoulder. It was something hard, anyway, and I definitely just dropped.

"It was just a bit of a bell ringer really. I was on the ground with the ringing in my ears and it was a bit of a shock really. But I have been happy with the way I have been feeling this week which has been really good."

With Taylor being cleared to start it means it's not necessary for the Crusaders to contemplate shifting Dan Carter to inside centre and bring Tyler Bleyendaal in at fly-half.

Taylor believes keeping Reds centre Ben Tapuai in check on the drift defence at set plays will help his side to neutralise the attacking threat which Quade Cooper poses.

"He plays really well when guys give him time and space," he said.

"I think if you can just get into his face and shut him down before he has the time to use his feet and do stuff he does really well."
