Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder admits that his side were handed a timely reminder that a lot can change in a week as they squeaked past the Hurricanes on Friday.
Having beaten the then table-topping Chiefs 43-15 last time out, the Crusaders headed into the match in Christchurch eyeing a full house of points. However, they hadn't bargained on a Hurricanes team full of running and determination.
The Crusaders escaped with the victory 25-17, with only a converted Tom Marshall try in the final minutes making the game safe.
"If anything, this will be a really timely lesson that going forward we know that we can't mentally switch off at all," commented Blackadder.
"Even though it wasn't a great performance we still 'guts'd' it out and still did what we needed to do to get the win."
The win means that Crusaders will finish fourth on the overall table, with their play-off opponent to be decided on Saturday.
