Steven Luatua could miss New Zealand's opening round of the Rugby Championship after injuring his shoulder.
The flanker suffered the injury during his team's 34-13 loss to the Cheetahs last Saturday and will take no part in the Blues' final Super Rugby match as a result.
Blues coach Sir John Kirwan commented that the injury was "not real, real bad", but that the 22-year-old would require some time on the sidelines.
"He just needs to rebuild it again," said Kirwan.
"We don't think there's any big damage in there, but there's nothing we can do about it."
The All Blacks get their Rugby Championship campaign underway against Australia on August 17.
