Heinrich Brüssow: Leaving Bloemfontein

Cheetahs flanker Heinrich Brüssow is leaving South Africa to further his career in Japan, according to South African media reports.

According to the Volksblad website, Brüssow will leave the Cheetahs at the end of this year's Super Rugby competition.

The 26-year-old's contract at the Bloemfontein-based franchise runs until after this year's Currie Cup but it's unlikely that Cheetahs boss Naka Drotské will prevent him from moving earlier.

Brüssow's contract in Japan will not allow him to play for the Springboks, which means his dream of adding to his 20 Test caps is on hold for the foreseeable future.

He will, however, still be able to play for the Cheetahs in Super Rugby as Japan's season does not run concurrently with the southern hemisphere tournament.

Brüssow's move is likely to be due to his continual omission from the Springboks set-up. He has not been included in a Bok squad since Heyneke Meyer took over the reins from Peter de Villiers in 2012.

Meyer has said that it is too risky to select Brüssow due to Northern Hemisphere referees taking charge of a number of the Boks' Tests.

Brüssow last played for the Springboks at the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand.
