The 22-year-old Nic White will become the Brumbies' youngest ever captain when he takes charge against the Rebels on Friday.

With regular skipper Ben Mowen and a number of other experienced players out of the equation due either injury or international duty, White has been handed the reins for the visit of the men from Melbourne.

The scrum-half will become the 12th player to perform the duty for the franchise and he concedes it's a position he never thought he would find himself in.

"It's not something I saw coming," White told AAP.

"It's a huge honour to be amongst those names. Something I'm not going to take lightly."

White looks set to come up against former Wallaby Luke Burgess on Friday, with Burgess called into an injury-hit Rebels squad after returning from a stint in France.

It's a match-up that White is looking forward to, having always admired Burgess.

"It's definitely something no one would have seen coming. It's a pleasant surprise as I've always wanted to play against Luke," he explained.

"He's someone I kind of looked at to model my game off when I was a little bit younger."
