Western Force scrum-half Chris Eaton has returned to New Zealand following the death of his wife, who was killed in a car accident over the weekend.
25-year-old Hannah Eaton died when the BMW she was driving collided with an SUV. A passenger in the other car suffered serious injuries.
Eaton was informed of the news on Sunday morning before the side's match against the Waratahs and was immediately flown back to New Zealand to be with his young daughter Layla.
Eaton's team-mates wore black armbands as a sign of respect during Sunday's match in Sydney.
"Players and staff at RugbyWA and the Western Force extend our deepest sympathies to Chris, his family and friends and will continue to provide any necessary support to help them through this period," the club said in an online statement on Monday.
"In respect of Chris, his family and friends, the club will not make any further comment on the matter at this time.
"We request that the media respect the privacy of Chris, his family and friends during this difficult time."
Former Hurricanes halfback Eaton, who is on a short-term Super Rugby contract with the Force, took to Twitter to thank friends and fans for their support for him and his daughter.
"I love my wife so much it hurts. my angel layla is my world and is the last thing holding me together. love 2 all," he wrote.
