The Blues' 30-27 loss to the Waratahs were compounded after All Blacks prop Charlie Faumuina suffered a calf strain.
He is likely to be sidelined for between four and six weeks.
Faumuina sustained the injury midway through the first half in Sunday's match in Sydney, but he will have an ultrasound scan tomorrow to assess the full extent of the injury.
He will remain on crutches at this stage.
Angus Ta'avao, who came on for Faumuina, shapes as the most obvious replacement for Saturday's clash with the Chiefs, while Ofa Tu'ungafasi also provides cover at tighthead prop.
