The Highlanders have roped in Waikato utility back Trent Renata as an injury replacement for ITM Cup team-mate Declan O'Donnell.
O'Donnell has been ruled out for the season after undergoing shoulder surgey, whilst the Highlanders will also be without All Blacks centre Tamati Ellison for the majority of their Super Rugby campaign.
The 24-year-old Renata has scored 293 points in 54 games for Waikato since his debut in 2007, and also played two matches for the Chiefs.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders injury woes continued this week after flank Doug Tietjens was the latest player to be sidelined for the season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. The Manawatu loose forward picked up the injury during Highlanders training session, playing touch rugby.
Otago skipper and number eight Paul Grant has been called into the squad as a temporary replacement.

Renata is very good player that has been overlooked. Good luck for the season.
