Players' player of the Year: Vereniki Goneva

Leicester wing Vereniki Goneva was crowned 2014 Players' Player of the Year by the Rugby Players Association on Wednesday.

The Fijian international scored 12 tries in 18 Aviva Premiership matches in his first season at the Welford Road-based club.

He recently signed a new two-year contract with the Tigers, who were beaten in the Aviva Premiership semi-finals by Northampton last weekend.

"This means a lot and I'm really very happy," said Goneva.

"It's an honour to win this award because a lot of players have done very well this season.

"To be voted by other players is something very special. A lot of players fight for this award so to be recognised like this is great."

Bath fly-half George Ford was named Young Player of the Year and Harlequins full-back Mike Brown the England Player of the Year.

Ford, who has helped Bath reach Friday's Amlin Challenge Cup final against Northampton, could not hide his delight after receiving his award

"I'm massively honoured to get the award and it's even more special because other players voted for it," he said.

"This is my first proper full season playing week in week out. I've enjoyed it and have learnt so much."
