Mathew Tait looking to pass for Leicester Tigers

Play-off focus: Mathew Tait

Leicester full-back Mathew Tait admits he is eager to take out their Heineken Cup frustrations on Aviva Premiership rivals in the upcoming season run-in.

Tait was part of the side that lost to Clermont last week and while the 28-year-old knows the Tigers played well in France, defeat was tough to take.

"No one wants to be known as a plucky loser and we were very disappointed to lose the game," the former England star told premiershiprugby.com.

"If we had played the way we played in the second half for the whole game then we could have really troubled them.

"You could tell at the end the way they were celebrating when they got the penalty that we had them worried so it is disappointing really.

"The defence was fantastic and we got the try just before half-time. In the dressing room we just wanted to make sure we went out in the second half and played, if we were going to go down then we were going down fighting.

"It has gone now though and we have to focus on the Aviva Premiership now and make sure we put in a performance this weekend.

"We have given arguably the best team in a Europe a real game away from home and we have to take the confidence from that into our next game."

Leicester face Wasps in this week's return to Premiership action and will be looking to both bounce back from the Clermont defeat and also to exact revenge for losing at Adams Park.

"Our next aim is to cement our place in the play-offs," added Tait.

"It's the old cliché of taking one game at a time because even if we win every game between now and the end of the season, Northampton might do the same and they would get the home semi-final.

"It would be great to play in front of our passionate fans at Welford Road but at the same time we would back ourselves if we have to go anywhere."
